Present Perfect X Present Perfect Continuous

Thepresentperfectcontinuous(also called thepresentperfectprogressive) is formed with have/has been + -ing form (e.g., have been working, has been studying). The Oxford Learner's Dictionary explains that this tense emphasizes the duration or ongoing nature of an action that began in the past and continues into thepresent.

The main difference between present perfect and present perfect continuous is thatpresent perfect talks about an action that is completed while present perfect continuous talks about an ongoing action.

Present Perfect highlights what has been achieved or completed, while Present Perfect Continuous emphasises how long something has been happening and often shows visible evidence.

The present continuous is used to talk about ongoing situations when there is no reference to duration. The present perfect continuous is used to talk about an action or situation that started in the past and has continued up to the present.

They've waited for hours. (This doesn't emphasise the length of time). 2: On the other hand, the present perfect simple is often used when we're talking about how much or how many. This isn't possible with the present perfect continuous:

We form the present perfect continuous with the present perfect simple of be + the -ing form of the main verb.

The present perfect simple usually focuses on the result of the activity in some way, and the present perfect continuous usually focuses on the activity itself in some way.

In a job interview, though, when discussing their work experience, native speakers would likely say I have been working with children for eight years to emphasize that they will continue to do so (though, again, I have worked with children for eight years is also correct). Most importantly, make sure you reinforce that the present perfect (have + p.p.) can be used for a continuing action, not just a completed past action.
