Temporary situations - Even when something’s not happening right now, but is temporary, no matter for how long it’s been going on, use Present Continuous - “He’s working as a waiter until he finds a better job.”, or “I’m staying with my parents for the weekend.”. For example, if you were to use Present Simple Tense for the first sentence, “He works as a waiter…”, that would mean that his job is considered permanent, not temporary.
